Apo Reef, Philippines. May 2011

The end of the day is never the same

Apo Reef sits west of South Mindoro. It had been a recommended dive site by many of the locals along the way and we were not disappointed. As is our usual tactic we watched to see where the dive operators were stationed and followed suit. Peter and Irene off ‘Catspaw’ were also at the reef so we offered to take them with us for the day exploring. Daryl and Amber got in three dives. Amber now puts one of those dive up there as ‘her best ever single dive’, although Layang Layang is still her top ‘dive area’. We also did a couple of lovely drift snorkels which I always find fun.

SHARK!!!

The World Wildlife Foundation had a research boat in the area while we were there. They do a great job supporting the locals to create and maintain marine reserves, educating communities about how to maintain healthy reefs and not overfishing them. Although what we saw seemed to all be about having fun in and under the water.

Literally thousand of fish on the reef

The typhoon was nearing, so after only two nights on the reef, we fled for the shelter of Boracay (although we were still only expecting 25 knots of wind), but better safe than sorry.

Dolphins always uplift our day...........show off

The flying fish photo competition is forever present
